Face The Fear

What is it that you’re afraid of? Get it out then let it go. Take the time to write down the things that make you fearful, use paper or word-pad.  Let’s remove that fear by considering all of the potential outcomes of your decision. Now think of the outcome if you do nothing. Are you starting to get the picture?

I want you to relax and begin to do the things that frighten you. Take it slow, tell yourself “the fear will pass”. Your courage will begin to grow and open a world of opportunities for you to explore. Accept failure as a part of life. Get through it and get over it.

“In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.” Bill Cosby

Think Positive

Thinking negatively will result into low self-esteem, here are a few tips to help you feel better about
yourself.

  • Stop feeling inadequate.
  • Stop worrying that your performance in your job will not be good enough.
  • Stop worrying about other people’s reactions to your work.
  • Stop worrying about the things you can not change and focus on the things you can.
  • Laugh at your fears.
  • Believe in yourself.

Remember that regrets are much worse than failures. You can’t go back in time to do something you wished you did but you can learn a very important lesson from your failures.

Set Small Goals

Setting goals can also be fearful. The fear of not achieving your goal can result in not setting any goals at all. Start small, write down a few small tasks that you know you can complete in a short amount of time. Taking one small step at a time will help build your confidence, keep you moving forward, and prevent you from getting overwhelmed with visions of your final goal. When the thought “I can’t do this because . . .” comes up try to focus on the small tasks that move toward your overall goal. To conquer the fear of failure, we must set our mind completely on the outcome that we want to create. Here is a good example: You want to build a successful website. Start small, chose your niche then add information about it page by page or paragraph by paragraph. Do what you feel you can achieve in a reasonable amount of time.

One of the lessons that I grew up with was to always stay true to yourself and never let what somebody else says distract you from your goals. Michelle Obama

Grow Your Courage

So what exactly is courage?  It is the ability to do something that frightens you. Being courageous means being willing to face fear and embrace uncertainty. According to Brené Brown, “We are wired to be brave; that’s why we never feel more alive than when we are being courageous.” So in other words,  you already have what it takes you just need to find it and use it.

Here are a few tips to help you grow your courage.

  • Use your values as your guide.
  • Listen to and trust yourself.
  • Practice self-compassion.
  • Speak your truth.
  • Move beyond the fear of what others think.
  • Accept mistakes as learning opportunities.
  • Remind yourself that fear can harm you.

Expand your comfort zone. Take a deep breath and go do something you normally would be afraid to do. This could be talking to someone in line at the grocery store to building your own website. Stop waiting to not feel scared.  Feel the fear and just do it, then you will experience true courage.

You can never cross the ocean unless you have the courage to lose the sight of the shore.” Christopher Columbus
