Did you know that almost everyone looking for a way to earn online will be scammed at least one time? Sad but true this happens way too often. You need to know what to look for to avoid being scammed. So what exactly is being scammed?
Scam = a fraudulent business scheme; “swindle”. Being conned into doing something. A scam or confidence trick is an attempt to defraud a person or group by gaining their confidence.
Over four million people are scammed each year.
- Over a third of scams (34%) were over the phone.
- Almost a quarter of scams (24%) were through visits to a website.
- 16% were letter or fax scams.
- One in ten scams (10%) were through emails.
Victims often hate to admit they’ve been scammed, so research is difficult. Experts estimate that $40 billion to $50 billion a year is lost to consumer fraud, says a study by the Financial Fraud Research Center at Stanford University’s Center on Longevity.
How To Avoid Being Scammed Online
Make Google Search your best friend. You can type literally anything into a Google search and you will get results. Before joining any new site online do your homework first. Google the sites name, owners name and any images associated with the site. You will be amazed at all the information you will find.
What raises the Red Flags? Sites that use mansions and expensive cars to lure you in, sites that claim they can make you rich in no time, sites that make you buy before you can try, sites with a video only sales page, sites with no way to contact support or poor support. Look out for owners who keep all their information private.
Find out who is promoting the site and why they are promoting it. Many simply promote anything just to make a quick buck off of unaware, uneducated people. The best thing you can do is to educate yourself and always do some research before joining anything online. I recommend my #1 way to educate yourself, and that is to become a member of Wealthy Affiliates!
